Modern Family is my favorite sitcom on air. It is compromised of one extended family, which are broken down to three smaller branches. First you have the most "normal" family which includes a standard Mom and Dad (Phil and Claire Dumphy) and three children (Haley, Alex, and Luke). Next you have a gay couple and their adopted daughter (Cam Tuker, Mitchell Pritchett, Lily). Lastly you have an older husband married to a younger Colombian woman who has a son via a previous marriage (Jay, Gloria Pritchett, and Manny Delgado).
I can always understand things with pictures; so here are a couple:

The show is presented in a mockumentary style. (Think of The Office) This usually breaks up the regular events with a sit down close up of one of the characters as they comment on something that will usually be humorous or offer a sincere saying/life lesson.
Most of the episodes deal with regular problems that any family will have. For instance in one episode you have Alex, a thirteen year old teenager kissing a boy for the first time. And then the episode will go even further where it is revealed that Jay hasn't kissed his son Mitchell since he was five and then that Haley and Alex realize their mother Claire isn't as good as she says she was when she was young. It is revealed that she was arrested and that she wants her kids to be held to a higher standard that she was when she was their age.
Modern Family is now airing its second season and The syndication rights to the show have also been sold to USA Network for fall 2011. It also has just won three Emmy Awards.
